Perched on the edge of a permanent marsh, Lemala Ndutu is the ultimate amphitheater for the wildebeest migration between December and April. 9 luxury tents of a very high specification are relocated from the Mara area of Northern Serengeti to this stunning Ndutu site between Dec and mid-April, purely to capture the boundless drama that accompanies the migration. The migrating herds of over 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra begin to arrive in December. Throughout February and March, the calving season takes place.
The camp is situated inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area along the border of Southern Serengeti in what is perhaps the finest location in the whole of Ndutu. Tucked away under huge umbrella thorn acacias, Lemala Ndutu offers fantastic views of the marsh which attracts a large number of plains game and predators alike. The camp enjoys regular visits from the resident wildlife ranging from lions, leopards, cheetah and hyena to elephant and giraffe. Lion hunts close to the camp are not uncommon.
Another major advantage of the area is the ability to do off-road game viewing. Lemala's open 4x4 vehicles are specially designed with charging units and a large refrigerator so that guests can enjoy full day game drives with great picnic breakfasts and lunches organized by the kitchen as well as chilled refreshments. The camp also offer optional walks along the marsh with an armed ranger for closer encounters with the wildlife.
Appointed with large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hr solar lighting, en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower, all the tents are spacious and very comfortable.
The mess tent offers separate living and dining areas with a central bar area and is beautifully decorated with leather sofas, chandeliers, side cabinets, rugs and chests. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before retiring for dinner under chandeliers hosted by the camp manager. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included at meal time.
Superb tents, personal hosting, al-fresco meals, fireside discussions, sundowners, spectacular views, breath-taking sunsets, prime migration viewing and optional walks all add to one of the best under-canvas safari experiences in Tanzania.

Here, in this immense remote wilderness, almost double the size of the Masai Mara, guests can enjoy fabulous landscapes and terrific game viewing with practically no crowds. Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high, with prides of lion up to 30 strong, but nothing compared to when the migration starts arriving from June onwards. The area then turns into a wildlife paradise par excellence. Through June, July and August the wildebeest continue moving through the area, crossing and re-crossing the Mara River before heading north towards the Masai Mara. Several large herds remain behind and weather changes could easily bring the vast herds flooding back into the area from the Mara. Migration and predator action lasts up to the end of October, assuring this area’s reputation as one of the finest wildlife areas in Africa.
At the camp's superb location, Lemala guests will be amongst the vast herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra. Two of the largest crossing points on the river are nearby and occasionally guests may observe the exciting crossings from the comfort of the camp. The spectacular Lamai triangle, Wogakuria kopjes and Kogatende airstrip are all very easily accessible.
Lemala Mara's naturalists/guides have exceptional local knowledge, enabling them to take guests to where the action is, in open 4x4 vehicles, away from the crowds. Lemala's vehicles are specifically designed for long game drives and come equipped with comfortable seats, charging units and a large refrigerator. The camp organizes great picnic breakfasts and lunches for those who want to go on full day game drives. Private vehicles can be booked in advance at extra cost and are subject to availability.
The camp is open from 1 June to 31 October and has 9 luxury tents (accommodating 18 to 22 guests). The new high specification tents are some of the most spacious and comfortable seasonal tents in Tanzania. Each tent is fitted with 2 double beds or 1 king size leather bed, warm duvets, flush toilet, large safari shower, running water, wooden cabinets and flooring, 24-hour solar lighting, outside lounger, games table and much more.
The mess tent offers separate living and dining areas with a central bar area and is beautifully decorated with leather sofas, chandeliers, side cabinets, rugs and chests. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before dining under chandeliers hosted by the camp manager. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included at meal time.

A new stylish traditional seasonal camp offering an authentic and intimate safari experience, Lemala Tarangire has a wonderful location near the Kuro Ranger Post deep inside the stunning Tarangire National Park from Jun to Oct. The camp takes advantage of the seasonal game movement from the surrounding areas into Tarangire National Park in the dry season between June and October. At the onset of rains in November, the game disperses back into the surrounding areas including Manyara. For this reason, from Dec to March the camp relocates inside Manyara National Park.
The permanent Tarangire River and the vast Silale swamp are located near the camp and attract large numbers of elephant and buffalo herds together with the big cats and 500 species of birds in the dry season. This allows guests to maximize game viewing opportunities from dawn to dusk. Wildlife also wanders past the camp all day during the dry season, heading towards the river beds or the swamps. The camp offers convenient access to all corners of the park thus Lemala guests can start as early as 6.15am, reach the key areas before other visitors arrive, and have significantly more time for quality game viewing.
Guests are also able to go on guided nature walks from the camp or enjoy al fresco meals and sundowners at camp while watching game saunter past the camp.
Each spacious tent is outfitted with a large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hr solar lighting, and en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower.
The mess tent is beautifully furnished in a contemporary style with comfortable sofas, lamps, book and corner cabinets, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before retiring for dinner under chandeliers hosted by the camp manager. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included at meal times.

Deep inside the park and far from the crowds, Lemala Manyara has an incredibly beautiful location on the edge of an Acacia woodland overlooking the lake. There are virtually no Tsetse flies in this section of the park.
All the tents face the lake and are constantly cooled by the breeze from the lake. Guests are treated to beautiful sunrises, while in the evening they may enjoy sundowners on the lakeshore as the sun sets over the escarpment behind the camp. The area is frequented by elephants, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and even lions which are sometimes attracted by the seasonal waterhole in front of the campfire. There is also a wide variety of birdlife around the camp for the bird enthusiast. Manyara hot springs are easily acccessible from the camp and is often the hangout for buffalo and tree-climbing lions.
Our traditional seasonal safari camp is supremely comfortable and blends into the surroundings. Each spacious tent is fitted with large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, and en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower. The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book shelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs.
We recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights as there is plenty to do and enjoy here – day or night game drives, guided walks, sundowners, outdoor meals, birding around the camp, stunning scenery and lakeshore location... From 2012, we have included one guided walk on the lakeshore per stay and additional walks are optional extra. There are 5 walking trails to explore around this section of the park. Optional night game drives are also available.
We believe Lemala Manyara has one of the most beautiful spots on the northern circuit. Together with all the activities on offer in a gorgeous, virtually tsetse-free and crowd-free corner of the park, we are sure that you will fall in love with this camp as many previous guests have already done.

Lemala Ngorongoro is an intimate, seasonal camp set in a delightful, ancient acacia forest on the rim of the crater next to the quiet Lemala access route. The camp offers accommodation under canvas in only 8 luxury tents (accommodating 16 to 20 guests) and 1 family tent (accommodating 4 to 5 guests), which ensures seclusion in a pristine forest environment.
Each spacious tent is fitted with a gas heater, large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a large safari shower. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and laundry are included.
The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book shelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before dining under chandeliers, which is hosted by the camp manager. The camp works closely with the local Masai community who often provide dances and talks on Masai life, their cultures, traditions and ceremonies. Guests enjoy the opportunity to interact with the Masai, learning more about their traditional lifestyles.
Lemala’s major advantage over any other accommodation in this area, is the quick and easy access into the crater, which maximizes game viewing opportunities. The morning crater traffic is therefore avoided. Game drives from the camp may start as early as 6.15am and it only takes 15 minutes to descend onto the crater floor, the scenery is breath-taking and the wildlife abundant. Very often Lemala clients are on their own on the crater floor, enjoying the solitude and early morning light. Lemala guests therefore enjoy longer and significantly higher quality game drives.
The other advantage of this location is its close proximity to Ol Moti and Empakai craters, which offer beautiful landscapes and scenery. Walks from the camp into the forest and along the crater rim together with an armed ranger and the Masai gives guests spectacular panoramas of the crater and an insight into the forest dwelling animals. Lemala camps also offer private hot lunches inside the crater or breakfast with the Masai on request.
Lemala offers great charm and luxury in a delightful prime location on the crater rim. It is perhaps the most intimate way to experience the crater's splendours. Don’t miss this gorgeous seasonal camp facing a lovely forest filled with sounds of wildlife, birds and the bells of Masai cattle.
Lemala Ngorongoro can be booked on an exclusive basis.
