Egyption Wonders
Egypt is one of the world's oldest vacation spots. For 3,000 years, people have flocked here for the year-round sunshine, warm hospitality, incredible value for money and its proximity to Europe.
The country's main attractions are the astounding temples and relics of Egyptian antiquity. The pyramids of Giza are still magnificent, thousands of years after construction; and even though its nose is out of joint, the inscrutable Sphinx retains its allure.
Egypt's currency is the Egyptian Pound. The country is three and a half hours behind Indian Standard Time and its official and most commonly spoken languages are Egyptian Arabic and English.
Cairo
Positioned in the heart of what was once the ancient Egyptian empire, Cairo is just 10 kilometres from the last surviving wonder of the ancient world, the Great Pyramid of Cheops. The Museum of Antiquities is packed with relics and here, you can see some of the riches taken from the Giza and Luxor sites, including the death mask of Tutankhamun.
Aswan
The Nile is at its most beautiful in Aswan, flowing through the amber desert and granite rocks, around emerald islands covered in palm groves and tropical plants. Explore the souk, full of the scent and colour of spices, perfumes, scarves and baskets. Aswan has been a favourite winter resort since the beginning of the nineteenth century and it's still the perfect getaway for those who seek a holiday with a historic flavour.
Luxor
Luxor has often been called the world's greatest open-air museum. The number of monuments in this area is unparalleled. Luxor's three main streets are Sharia al-Mahatta, Sharia al-Karnak and the Corniche, next to the Nile. The city has all the amenities tourists might expect, including a variety of hotels, bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
Alexandria
Is located 1,620 meters above sea level at the top of the Vispa valley and surrounded by some of Switzerland's tallest mountains. This Alpine town occupies arguably one of Europe's most picturesque and idyllic settings, with a view as majestic as the town is small.
Nile Cruises
Is the dominant city in the French-speaking Canton of Vaud and one of Switzerland's most important cultural centres. Perched above Lake Geneva, the city has, over the centuries, attracted such literary giants as Voltaire, Byron and Dickens. It was here, in fact, that TS Eliot wrote The Waste Land.
