Sri Lanka

From the minute you step into Sri Lanka, life slows down. Every house you pass begs to be photographed; every step you take is a picture worth framing. Here’s a country where the people always greet you with a smile; one that has seen the rise and fall of three colonies; where cricket is not just a sport but a matter of national pride. Unravel years of rich heritage as you walk past the ruins of Anuradhapura and discover a sense of inner calm in spiritual town of Kandy. Breathe in the scent of freshly cropped tea when you visit the beautiful hill country of Nuwara Eliya. Find little moments of happiness in the beach alcoves of Hikkaduwa and Bentota. The jewel of the Indian Ocean and a country like none other; Sri Lanka promises you an experience that is truly magical.

City Information

Kandy

A world heritage site, Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. The bustling hill town has a lot to offer its visitors, and is a refreshing change from the rest of the country’s beachside atmosphere. Here, emerald hills and cool breezes abound, and song, dance, handicrafts, exquisite old Buddhist temples and a host of activities set the stage for a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere for cultural exploration.

Nuwara Eliya

This is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill station, and the heart of the tea industry. Here, red-roofed bungalows framed by beautifully tended rose bushes and hedges abound, earning it the sobriquet of ‘Little England’. Hiking, boating and horse riding are highly recommended, as is the 18-hole golf course, one of the best in South Asia.

Colombo

The country's capital is, in every way, the pulsing heart of Sri Lanka. The older streets are lined with elegant colonial buildings, and cheerful gardens dot the cityscape. The beach is never too far away, and travellers are often happy to spend most of their holiday here, either basking in the tropical sun, or involved in a slew of water sports. As with most cities, Colombo offers an excellent variety of dining and shopping options. This is as urban as it gets on the island country.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

In the 4th century A.D., a tooth of the Buddha was hidden in an Orissan princess’s hair and brought to Sri Lanka. Since then, this relic has gained a reputation and a following throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized historic and religious possession.
